The Midnight Zone

A bathypelagic blacklight submersion by Amy Chace.

A thousand meters down, the ocean stops receiving light and starts making its own. Amy Chace paints with UV pigments, so her work does the same: one set of paintings in daylight, another under blacklight. Same board, same brushstrokes, a different picture. If you run a room that is already lit for this, the switch below is the whole proposition.

Where it lives now

The Midnight Zone ran as a UV-lit booth inside Fish City Studios, 39 Main St, Gloucester, Massachusetts, in Jon Sarkin's last studio. The booth came down on August 27 and the show moved here.

Amy Chace is a Rockport painter and illustrator, a New York band photographer before that, with two oracle decks published by Schiffer.
